Last First Day

Monday was my last first day of school in 22 years! Unbelievable! The Baby is a Senior! And VP at that! Strangely enough, I wasn't sad. A little melancoly maybe, (even though I don't know how to spell the word) but I wasn't the blubbering soul that I would have predicted that I would be any of the previous 22 years before that day. No, actually, that day was the day that Layton and I have talked about for many a year. It was the day that we have strived for, yea, even plodded towards for all these years. I thought it would never ever get here and yet, it came ever so fast! How is it possible that I am old enough to have planned and prepared children for the first day of school for the last 22 years x 5? Man, that's like 110 years. In dog years it's like, 770 years. No wonder I'm not sad! I'm too tired to be sad!
Sara was so excited to be a senior, how could I be sad? She's finally king of the hill, top of the heap, move out of her way little, pitiful sophies, she's not only the VP, she's now a VIP. Don't mess with the invisible boundary in the cafeteria either because only the royal "seniors" can cross that line, only the chosen few that make the grade of 12 can walk down the hall and have the small and insignificant wantabees part the way for her just like the red sea did when Moses waved his mighty staff! Sad? Not a chance! She now has the respect, no, dare I say, the command of a school that houses 2200 students in who will fall in line BEHIND her since she now has been branded as an all important Senior! Ahhh, I remember those days. The Glory Days! Yes, Sara, you are a senior! Enjoy the year of importance and fame and royalty for next year you will return once again to start over on the ever present bottom of the barrel when you begin life as a Freshman in College...Your fantastic life on your "high horse"year as a Senior will be shorter than you think, now that's sad!
