American Idol comes to SLC

AI has become a tradition in our home from the start in Jan. until the finale in May. It is a family show and has been a great conversation topic over many years. So, when the show announced that it would be coming to Utah again, Layton gave me and Sara (and himself) tickets to AI for a surprise Mother's Day/Graduation present. Last night was the concert. It was fun to see the kids from the show singing again since we tend to go through withdrawals from June to Jan during the AI break and auditions. Here is my review of the concert before I read what reviewers have to say in the papers:

I thought that all of the singers had improved by miles and did a fabulous job with their vocals but all of us were VERY disapointed in Adam. He did great on his first couple of songs as far as rock and roll go but then he took off his leather jacket to reveal a leather vest which stunned the audience into laughter because it became more of a spectacle instead of a music concert. He sang a coupld of David Bowie songs, one of which was "fame" and truely let his inner "drag queen" self OUT! It became embarressing and ackward for us and we all just sat down, just feeling uncomfortable about his performance. Still, he got mega levels of adoration before, during and after he was done singing. Then Kris came out and wow, what a contrast! He was in jeans and his signature snap up plaid country shirt and

he just

sat there on a stool and piano bench and with a guitar for his set and did an amazing job. I think the biggest hit for me though was Danny. He did a great job, talked about his trial not being the thing that defined him in his life and to always reach for your dreams. All in all, it was a fun night and we had a good time. Only problem is, we have to wait til Jan to start all over again......
