Who Me? You've got to be kidding, right?

Thank goodness the church is true!.....Our ward got a new bishop a couple of months ago and his new ward motto must be "shake, rattle and roll" Let me explain...... So, on May 18, I was called as Young Women President in our Ward. (What? Yeah, that's what I said!) I couldn't even say it for the longest time because I was just crying and "unbelieving" you might say. But after only having lived here for 1 year, I did have an advantage, I guess, in that I didn't know anyone well enough to know who has served where and so I didn't go into it with any pre-concieved notions or ideas and I had to totally rely on the guidence from the Lord. Well, it was an awesome experience. The women that have been called as counselors and advisors are incredible! Most have served in leadership in the Young Women's before and those that haven't are wonderful at anything they do so I am surrounded with good people and you know what they say about that! ? "You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with!"~so I'm covered there! Layton has taught me that the most effective leaders are the ones that delegate and share the love. After years of unsuccessfully trying to figure that concept out, I think I am finally learning how to do it. It's easy when other's are so willing and capable and it makes life so much easier! I'm all about that as well. I have learned over the years that the letter and the spirit of the law are meant for following like the directions on THE BOX....."as directed". It's amazing to watch the hand of the Lord work. He is not going to let his church fall apart just because I am a dork and might get it wrong. There is order! I have heard it said since recieving this calling that it is the busiest calling in the church,..... I growned ....... but I have tried to keep things in persective.... 90% of all callings great or small is just showing up, the other 10% is listening to the spirit and leadership (i.e. delegating). (anyway, that may be embelishing a little bit but that's how Layton puts it). The Lord needs willing hands and hearts and listening ears and He will do the rest. After all, it is HIS church. Thank goodness I learned this BEFORE I was called. I used to think I had to do it all and be it all ...alias "wonder mormon women" or the world would fall apart! Ironic as it is that my children are all almost out of the house, following this councel keeps your relationship with the Lord in full focus, your family suffereth not and the work still get's done.......go figure! Too bad for me I couldn't have figured this out sooner!!! That doesn't mean I haven't depended on the blessings of the priesthood or the love and support of family and friends....oh no.....not even close.....I don't think I would have stopped crying if it weren't for emails and cards and phone calls from everyone who knows me best, encouraging me to "buck up" and "just do it"! (...to which I say THANK YOU with all of my heart!) It's times like these that my truest friends drop everything and come calling and never fail to lift me up! I love you guys so much!
Now then, having prefaced all of that.....HELP!
Does anyone have any terrific ideas for a ward youth conference or standards night like a speaker or fun themes or what to do? These events are scheduled for Aug and Sept. The Y.W. camp this summer is on a stake level and we get the Heber Valley camp (tashmahall of camping) so I hit it just right! The theme for it is B.U.G.S. (BUILD UPON GOSPEL STANDARDS). Cute huh? Our ward is the "knowledge beetles" (color- green) and we are going to keep it as a spin off of the real "beatles". ( I wanna hold your hand...shout....yellow submarine....etc) Funny huh? anyway, none of this was my idea, I just get to carry it through so I am very lucky! But not so with the standards night and youth conference so please, if you are reading this and you have any ideas.....PLEASE TELL ME! Brook Buchanan, I know you are ward camp directer as I have read your blog but hardly, if ever, posted...for shame I know....sorry and so I know you are all about the youth right now........ any ideas? Cami, Laci, Elise, Aubrey, Jolynn, Brooke, Susan, Cindy, Gayle, Ali, Brooke, Lark, Jade, anyone....anyone......???????I love reading everyone's blog from other peoples blogs too...people I have no idea who they are but know that they must be cool because your friends are my friends type of thing and my friends are all cool...right? So, if you found my page through someone else that knows me....this call for help is for you too! Feel Free to give me a little INSPIRATION! even if you don't know me
....ahem
that's all for now folks
......amen

mom, you are so cute...i have the faith that you will pull through! but some ideas that came to mind for youth conference was one year we all just went camping for 2 days with just like tents and stuff and played steal the flag and a ton of fun games and had testimony meetings and food and stuff like that. It was really fun and it was short and sweet and i still remember it to this day, so thats gotta count for somethin, right? or we've done one before thats just at the church and you go home at night, but during the day you play like water games and eat lunch and dinner and have spiritual speakers and stuff and that was like 2 days too i think. anyway, im sure you'll do awesome as always! love ya!
